Maiduguri, Nigeria, March 17: At least 23 people were killed and more than 100 injured in a series of suspected suicide bombings that struck the northeastern city of Maiduguri on Monday night. Police and emergency services confirmed that multiple explosions occurred in crowded public areas, including a major market and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Authorities said the blasts were likely carried out by suicide bombers, with initial investigations pointing to extremist groups active in Borno State. The attacks are among the deadliest the region has witnessed in recent months, intensifying concerns over renewed militant activity.
Security forces have cordoned off the affected areas, and explosives disposal teams have been deployed. Hospitals in Maiduguri are treating the injured, while officials warn that the death toll may rise as several victims remain in critical condition.
