Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will launch the fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY‑IV) in Odisha’s Rayagada district today, May 1, 2026. The programme, with an investment of ₹1,698 crore, includes 827 road projects covering 1,701 km to connect 898 habitations with all‑weather roads.
The launch event will be held at the IACR Ground in Barijhola, Rayagada, with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and State Rural Development Minister Rabi Narayan Naik also in attendance. Senior officials and beneficiaries from across the state are expected to participate.
PMGSY‑IV, approved in 2024 with a nationwide outlay of ₹70,125 crore, aims to build 62,500 km of rural roads by 2028‑29, connecting nearly 25,000 habitations. The initiative is designed to enhance rural mobility, improve access to schools, hospitals, and markets, and boost socio‑economic development in remote and tribal areas.
Odisha has already made significant progress under PMGSY, with 17,963 roads (74,725 km) sanctioned, of which 17,760 roads (71,742 km) and 658 bridges have been completed. The new phase will further strengthen rural connectivity and support the national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Chouhan emphasized that the PMGSY‑IV rollout reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, ensuring that rural communities benefit from modern infrastructure and improved opportunities.
