A joint jirga of tribal elders and officials from Pakistan and Afghanistan has called for an immediate ceasefire to end the ongoing violence along the border and within conflict-hit regions.
The jirga, convened to address rising tensions and cross-border clashes, urged both sides to prioritize dialogue and reconciliation over armed confrontation.
Participants stressed that continued fighting has disrupted civilian life, displaced families, and undermined efforts to stabilize the region.
The meeting highlighted the importance of traditional mechanisms of conflict resolution, with elders emphasizing that peace and cooperation are essential for trade, security, and community welfare.
Officials from both countries said they would carry forward the jirga’s recommendations, noting that the call for a ceasefire reflects the shared desire of local communities for lasting peace.
