Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on December 20–21, 2025, to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth approximately ₹15,600 crore. The initiatives are aimed at boosting infrastructure, agriculture, and connectivity in the northeastern state.
During his visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the new terminal building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. Spread over 1.4 lakh square metres, the terminal is designed to handle 1.3 crore passengers annually and reflects Assam’s biodiversity and cultural heritage under the theme “Bamboo Orchids.”
Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project at Namrup in Dibrugarh district. With an investment of ₹10,600 crore, the plant is expected to meet fertilizer requirements of Assam and neighbouring states, while reducing import dependence and supporting farmers.
In addition, the Prime Minister will pay homage at Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon, Guwahati, honouring the sacrifices of martyrs. His itinerary includes interactions with stakeholders and reviews of ongoing development schemes in the region.
Officials stated that the projects reflect the government’s commitment to accelerating growth in the Northeast, enhancing employment opportunities, and strengthening regional infrastructure. The visit is expected to provide a significant boost to Assam’s economy and connectivity.
Observers noted that the combination of infrastructure expansion and agricultural support underscores a balanced approach to development, while the cultural theme of the airport terminal highlights the integration of local identity into national projects.
