Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the High Commission of Bangladesh in New Delhi to pay his respects following the passing of former Bangladesh Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. He signed the condolence book and conveyed India’s sorrow at her demise.
During the visit, Singh expressed solidarity with the people of Bangladesh and extended condolences to Khaleda Zia’s family. He noted her role in Bangladesh’s political history and acknowledged the grief felt across the nation.
Officials at the High Commission welcomed the gesture, highlighting the importance of India’s tribute at a time of mourning. The visit underscored the close ties between India and Bangladesh, even amid political transitions.
Begum Khaleda Zia, who served twice as Prime Minister of Bangladesh, passed away in late December 2025. Her funeral was held in Dhaka, attended by dignitaries and mourners from across the world.
Rajnath Singh’s presence at the High Commission reflected India’s respect for Bangladesh’s leadership and reaffirmed the enduring relationship between the two countries.
