The Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India has emphasized that Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) serve as a key pillar of India’s capital markets, playing a crucial role in mobilizing long-term capital for businesses and infrastructure projects.
He highlighted that AIFs contribute significantly to economic growth by providing funding to startups, private companies, and sectors that require patient capital, which traditional banking and equity markets may not fully support.
The SEBI Chairman noted that regulatory frameworks governing AIFs have evolved to ensure investor protection, transparency, and accountability while encouraging innovation in investment strategies.
He also underscored the importance of continued reforms and support for the AIF ecosystem to enhance India’s position as a global investment destination and strengthen the overall financial market infrastructure.
The remarks came during a discussion on the role of institutional investors in driving sustainable economic growth and expanding access to diverse investment avenues in India.
