NEW DELHI, Aug 16: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a re-test for three papers of the UGC-NET June 2026 examination after several errors were reported in the question papers. The affected subjects are English, Commerce and Sociology.
The decision was taken after an expert committee reviewed complaints received from candidates and examined the question papers. The review found issues including factual, typographical, grammatical and translation-related errors.
The English and Commerce papers will be held again on September 9. The English paper will be conducted from 9 am to 12 noon, while the Commerce paper will take place from 3 pm to 6 pm. The Sociology paper has been scheduled for September 10 from 9 am to 12 noon.
The re-test will be conducted only for candidates who appeared for the affected papers. The NTA has said that candidates will not have to pay any additional examination fee for appearing in the re-test.
The UGC-NET June 2026 examination was conducted between June 22 and 30 for 87 subjects. The examination is used to determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professor positions and admission to PhD programmes.
The NTA has said that the re-test for the three affected subjects will not delay the result process for the remaining subjects. The evaluation and answer-key process for those papers will continue separately.
The announcement has also triggered criticism from political parties and candidates, with questions being raised over the quality checks followed before the examination. The NTA is expected to issue further details about examination centres and admit cards for the re-test.
