New Delhi, November 6, 2025 — Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has reaffirmed India’s commitment to achieving self-reliance under the AtmaNirbhar Bharat initiative, emphasizing strategic reforms, indigenous innovation, and inclusive growth as key pillars of the national vision.
Addressing a policy forum in the capital, Sitharaman highlighted progress across sectors including manufacturing, digital infrastructure, defence, and renewable energy. She noted that targeted investments, ease of doing business, and support for startups are driving India’s transformation into a resilient and globally competitive economy.
The minister also underscored the importance of empowering MSMEs, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and fostering skill development to build a robust domestic ecosystem. She called for greater collaboration between industry and government to accelerate the pace of self-reliance.
AtmaNirbhar Bharat, launched in 2020, continues to evolve through sector-specific initiatives and policy frameworks aimed at reducing import dependency and boosting exports. Sitharaman reiterated that economic self-sufficiency is not isolationist, but a foundation for stronger global partnerships.
Stakeholders from industry, academia, and civil society welcomed the roadmap, citing its potential to unlock new opportunities and reinforce India’s position in the global value chain.
