Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday informed Parliament that Indian Railways operated 76,352 special trains during the last financial year to manage passenger demand across the country.
These special services were introduced to handle heavy rush during major festivals, holiday seasons and peak travel periods, ensuring smoother passenger movement across key routes.
The minister noted that the deployment of special trains helped ease congestion and provided additional capacity at a time when overall train operations have surpassed pre‑COVID levels.
Indian Railways has been focusing on improving punctuality, expanding services and enhancing passenger convenience, with several zones reporting over 90 percent on‑time performance during high‑traffic periods.
Vaishnaw added that the Railways continues to strengthen infrastructure, increase rolling stock availability and introduce new services to meet rising travel demand nationwide.
