The Government of India has officially notified the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Act, 2026, after President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent. The new umbrella law standardizes recruitment, deputation, promotion, and service conditions for officers across all CAPFs, including CRPF, CISF, BSF, ITBP, and SSB.
The Act applies to Group A General Duty officers and other personnel, establishing uniform rules for recruitment and career progression. It also sets clear deputation quotas for IPS officers, with 50% of Inspector General posts and 67% of Additional Director General posts to be filled through IPS deputation.
By bringing all CAPFs under a common administrative framework, the law aims to streamline governance, reduce overlaps, and strengthen leadership structures. It provides legal clarity and consistency across forces tasked with internal security, border management, and industrial protection.
The notification marks a significant step in enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring fairness in service conditions, reinforcing the role of CAPFs in safeguarding national security.
