New Delhi, November 6, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a year-long commemoration on November 7 to mark 150 years of India’s national song ‘Vande Mataram’, celebrating its enduring legacy in the country’s cultural and freedom movement history.
The launch event will be held at Vigyan Bhawan, featuring musical tributes, historical exhibitions, and performances that highlight the song’s role in inspiring generations of patriots. The initiative aims to engage youth, artists, and scholars through nationwide programs and cultural outreach.
‘Vande Mataram’, composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875, became a rallying cry during India’s struggle for independence and continues to evoke national pride. The Ministry of Culture has curated a series of events including seminars, school competitions, and digital campaigns to honor the song’s legacy.
Officials stated that the commemoration will also include collaborations with state governments, universities, and cultural institutions to promote awareness and appreciation of India’s literary and patriotic heritage.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to address the gathering and unveil a commemorative plaque to formally begin the year-long tribute.
