Security forces carried out massive search operations across different areas of the Jammu region on August 12, 2026, ahead of Independence Day celebrations. Joint teams of police, CRPF, and Army launched coordinated searches in Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, Samba, and Jammu districts following intelligence inputs about suspicious movements. Forest belts, border villages, and residential clusters were thoroughly combed to ensure safety and prevent infiltration attempts.
In Poonch, operations were intensified in Mendhar and adjoining forest areas, while in Rajouri, cordon-and-search drives were conducted in Surankote and Dhara Sangla. Kathua’s Hiranagar sector witnessed recovery of an unexploded mortar shell, which was safely disposed of by bomb squads. Similar checks were carried out in Arnia sector of Jammu, where houses and shacks were searched, and in Samba and Kishtwar districts to maintain area domination.
Officials stated that these operations are part of heightened security measures to secure sensitive zones and ensure smooth conduct of Independence Day events. The searches also aim to disrupt possible militant networks and recover incriminating material. Locals have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
The Jammu region, with its dense forests and border proximity, has witnessed increased security activity in recent weeks. The ongoing searches highlight the administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability during the national celebrations.
