Kishtwar/Kathua, November 10, 2025 — In a proactive move to enhance telecom security and curb misuse of mobile connections, the Jammu & Kashmir Police conducted a comprehensive SIM vendor inspection drive across multiple locations in Kishtwar and Kathua districts. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure compliance with verification norms and prevent unauthorized issuance of SIM cards.
Teams from local police stations, under the supervision of district-level officers, visited retail outlets and mobile service points to examine documentation practices, customer verification records, and adherence to Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols. Vendors found violating guidelines or lacking proper registration were issued warnings, and in some cases, penal action was initiated under relevant provisions of the law.
Senior police officials emphasized that the drive aims to strengthen digital identity safeguards and prevent the use of unverified SIMs in criminal or anti-national activities. “Ensuring that every mobile connection is traceable and legally issued is critical to maintaining public safety and national security,” said a spokesperson from the J&K Police.
The inspection teams also educated vendors about the importance of strict compliance with telecom regulations and the consequences of negligence. Awareness materials were distributed to reinforce best practices in customer onboarding and digital recordkeeping.
Authorities have indicated that similar drives will be conducted periodically across other districts, with increased coordination between law enforcement and telecom service providers. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious SIM activity or unauthorized sales to their nearest police station.
The initiative reflects the J&K Police’s commitment to leveraging regulatory enforcement and community engagement to build a secure and accountable digital ecosystem in the region.
