Jammu, November 2, 2025 — Emphasizing the ethical foundation of the legal profession, Justices Wasim Sadiq Nargal, Sanjay Parihar, and Mohammad Yusuf Wani of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh addressed law students and faculty at the valedictory session of a Trial Moot Court Competition hosted by the University of Jammu.
Justice Nargal highlighted the judiciary’s role in upholding constitutional values and resisting misuse of power. He stated that in a constitutional democracy, principle must guide power, and authority must remain accountable to the rule of law. He reminded students that the courtroom is not just a place of legal argument but a space where justice, fairness, and conscience must prevail.
He cited landmark judgments that have shaped India’s legal landscape and urged future lawyers to embody discipline, empathy, and integrity. “The courtroom rewards preparation, not theatrics,” he said, encouraging students to see each case as a human story deserving of thoughtful advocacy.
Justice Parihar emphasized the importance of understanding the intent behind laws and the responsibility of legal professionals to apply them with clarity and purpose. He noted that legal excellence stems from a deep grasp of both legal provisions and the ability to present arguments persuasively and ethically.
Justice Wani described the legal profession as one of the most noble and impactful fields in society, contributing to peace and justice. He encouraged students to prepare deeply and think critically, stressing that credibility in the legal field is built on thoughtful preparation and moral clarity.
All three justices praised the University of Jammu for fostering legal talent and called for continued focus on practical legal education, including trial advocacy, legal technology, human rights, and public policy. They also acknowledged the evolving role of technology in the legal system, with a reminder that while tools like artificial intelligence can assist, it is human conscience that must guide justice.
Faculty members and legal professionals present at the event echoed the call for a values-driven approach to legal education and practice, reinforcing the importance of mentorship, academic rigor, and ethical leadership in shaping the next generation of legal professionals.
