SRINAGAR: A severe cold wave has gripped the Kashmir valley, with temperatures dipping well below the seasonal average. The Meteorological Department reported sub-zero conditions across most districts, leading to partial freezing of water bodies and icy roads.
Officials stated that Srinagar recorded one of the coldest nights of the season, while higher reaches experienced heavy frost and intensified chill. The cold wave has disrupted normal life, with residents facing difficulties in water supply and transport due to frozen pipelines and slippery surfaces.
Authorities have advised people to take precautionary measures, particularly during early morning and late evening hours when the chill is most severe. Health experts have also urged citizens to guard against respiratory ailments and hypothermia during the ongoing cold spell.
The administration has directed departments to ensure uninterrupted power and heating arrangements, especially in hospitals and schools. Relief measures, including distribution of firewood and kerosene, are being monitored to support vulnerable sections of society.
