Dhaka, December 25, 2025: Khuda Baksh Chowdhury has resigned from his position as Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government on Home Affairs. His resignation was formally accepted by the President and took immediate effect.
Chowdhury, a former Inspector General of Police, was appointed Special Assistant to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus in November 2024. His tenure was marked by responsibilities in overseeing law and order during a politically sensitive period.
The resignation comes amid growing public criticism and demands for accountability following recent unrest and incidents of violence. Cultural and civic groups, including Inqilab Moncho, had called for his removal, citing concerns over governance and security management.
A gazette notification signed by Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid confirmed the acceptance of Chowdhury’s resignation. The development is seen as part of broader changes within the interim administration aimed at restoring public confidence.
Officials emphasized that the government remains committed to strengthening law and order and ensuring stability during the ongoing transitional phase.
