Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi led the armed forces in paying solemn tributes to the fallen warriors of ‘Operation Pawan’ on its anniversary. The ceremony honoured the supreme sacrifice of soldiers who laid down their lives during the Indian Peace Keeping Force’s mission in Sri Lanka.
General Dwivedi, accompanied by senior officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, laid wreaths at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. The tribute reflected the collective gratitude of the armed forces and the nation towards the martyrs of the operation.
‘Operation Pawan’ was launched in 1987 as part of India’s peacekeeping efforts in Sri Lanka. The mission witnessed intense combat, with many Indian soldiers making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage and dedication remain etched in the country’s military history.
General Dwivedi emphasised that the legacy of the fallen warriors continues to inspire the armed forces to uphold the highest traditions of valour, duty, and service to the nation. He reaffirmed the commitment of the armed forces to honour their memory through steadfast dedication to national security.
