New Delhi, Jun 23: India has welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a positive step for regional stability and global energy security.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval said the agreement would help stabilize energy markets and ensure uninterrupted supply chains. “This MoU will boost global energy security and safeguard the interests of millions dependent on the region’s oil and gas exports,” he stated.
Doval emphasized that India, as a major energy importer, has a direct stake in peace and stability in West Asia. He noted that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would ease concerns over disruptions in crude shipments and reduce volatility in global markets.
The NSA highlighted India’s consistent support for dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts, adding that the agreement reflects the importance of diplomacy in addressing long-standing tensions.
Officials said the MoU is expected to pave the way for further negotiations between Washington and Tehran, with the UN and other global stakeholders welcoming the development.
India reiterated its commitment to working with international partners to strengthen energy security and promote peace in the region.
