Pakistan’s Human Rights Commission has raised serious alarm over escalating violence in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), warning that the situation poses grave risks to civilian lives and fundamental freedoms.
In its latest statement, the Commission highlighted reports of arbitrary detentions, excessive use of force, and suppression of peaceful protests in several districts of PoK.
Local activists have alleged that security forces have targeted demonstrators demanding better civic facilities and accountability, leading to injuries and widespread fear among residents.
The Commission noted that the denial of basic rights, including freedom of expression and assembly, has deepened mistrust between the population and authorities.
It urged the government to immediately halt repressive measures, ensure transparency in security operations, and engage with community leaders to address grievances.
Human rights defenders stressed that unchecked violence could further destabilize the region, calling for international attention to safeguard the rights of civilians in PoK.
The alarm raised by Pakistan’s own rights body underscores the fragile situation in the territory, where demands for dignity, justice, and accountability continue to clash with heavy-handed state responses.
