The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a revised schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh. As per the new timeline, the draft publication of the rolls will be available on January 6, 2026, with the final list scheduled for release on March 6, 2026.
According to officials, the qualification date for the revision has been set as January 1, 2026. This means that all eligible voters who have attained the age of 18 years by this date can be included in the updated rolls.
The claims and objections period will run from January 6 to February 6, 2026, allowing citizens to raise corrections or request inclusion. Disposal of claims and objections, along with the notice phase, will continue until February 27, 2026.
The revision process was extended multiple times due to the workload on Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who have been conducting door-to-door verification since November 4, 2025. The SIR exercise concluded on December 26, 2025, after two extensions, ensuring thorough verification of voter details.
Officials emphasised that the revised schedule aims to deliver an error-free and inclusive voter list. The move comes in response to concerns over large-scale deletions and the need for accurate verification to safeguard voter rights.
With Uttar Pradesh being India’s most populous state, the accuracy of its electoral rolls carries significant political importance. The updated schedule is expected to strengthen the integrity of the electoral process and reduce disputes during upcoming elections.
