India and the European Union have launched a joint initiative to strengthen electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling capacity, marking a significant step in advancing sustainable mobility and circular economy practices.
The collaboration aims to develop advanced recycling technologies, improve supply chain resilience, and reduce dependence on raw material imports by reusing and repurposing critical minerals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel.
Officials highlighted that the initiative will support India’s growing EV ecosystem while aligning with the EU’s Green Deal objectives, ensuring both regions move toward cleaner, more resource-efficient transport solutions.
The program will also encourage industry partnerships, research collaborations, and policy frameworks to scale up recycling infrastructure across India and Europe.
