Larsen has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a prohibited weapon. In a court affidavit, he admitted he “intends to kill Muslims” and was described as posing a substantial danger to the public.
The Consulate General of India in San Francisco expressed deep sadness over the incident and is providing consular assistance to the victim’s family. Muslim advocacy groups, including CAIR, condemned the attack as part of rising Islamophobia in the US.
Community members have launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Sohailuddin’s recovery, while authorities continue investigations into Larsen’s violent ideology and past record of threats.
The incident has sparked international concern, highlighting tensions between academic freedom, national security, and the growing threat of hate crimes targeting minority communities.
