Balasore, Odisha, December 30, 2025: India has successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the Pinaka rocket with a range of 120 kilometres at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha. The test marks a significant advancement in the country’s indigenous rocket artillery capabilities.
The Pinaka rocket system, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is designed to provide long-range precision firepower for the armed forces. The extended-range variant tested today demonstrated enhanced accuracy and effectiveness, strengthening India’s tactical strike capabilities.
Defence officials confirmed that the rocket achieved all mission objectives during the trial, validating its design and performance parameters. The successful test is expected to pave the way for induction of the 120-km range Pinaka into operational service after further evaluations.
The Pinaka system has been a key component of India’s artillery modernization programme, with earlier variants having ranges of up to 75 kilometres. The new extended-range version significantly enhances battlefield reach and provides greater flexibility in deployment.
Today’s achievement underscores India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence technology and highlights the progress made in strengthening indigenous research and development in advanced weapon systems.
