Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has announced that India will implement zero-duty on 100 per cent of Australian tariff lines starting January 1.
The move comes under the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA), which aims to boost bilateral trade and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
With this decision, Australian exporters will gain duty-free access to the Indian market across all tariff lines, covering sectors such as agriculture, resources, and industrial goods.
Officials stated that the agreement is expected to enhance trade volumes, reduce costs for Indian importers, and provide consumers with greater access to Australian products.
Minister Goyal emphasized that the zero-duty regime reflects India’s commitment to expanding trade partnerships and creating new opportunities for businesses and industries.
The announcement marks a significant milestone in India’s trade diplomacy, reinforcing its position as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
