The Government of India informed Parliament that over 3,800 Indian nationals were deported from the United States in 2025. The deportations were carried out on grounds including visa violations, illegal entry, and overstaying beyond permitted periods.
Minister of State for External Affairs stated that the government is closely monitoring such cases and providing necessary consular assistance to affected individuals. He emphasized that deportations are part of routine enforcement of immigration laws by the US authorities.
According to official data, the majority of deported individuals were apprehended for irregular migration attempts and overstays. The Ministry highlighted that awareness campaigns are being conducted to caution citizens against illegal migration routes and to encourage compliance with visa norms.
The issue was raised during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, where members expressed concern over the rising number of deportations and urged the government to strengthen bilateral engagement with the US to safeguard the interests of Indian nationals abroad.
The government reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights of Indian citizens overseas while stressing the importance of lawful migration practices. Officials noted that deportation figures reflect enforcement trends and underline the need for greater awareness among aspiring migrants.
