Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that Indian Railways will operate more than 300 special trains for the upcoming Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha, to ensure smooth travel for lakhs of devotees.
East Coast Railway (ECoR) has prepared holding areas at Puri station with a capacity of 30,000 devotees, along with additional ticket counters, food stalls, and digital help desks for crowd management.
In addition to Rath Yatra arrangements, Railways will also run over 100 special trains during Kerala’s Onam festival, reflecting its focus on festival travel convenience.
Vaishnaw highlighted that Railways operated 15,000 special trains during the summer season ending June 30, 2026, marking a record initiative in passenger services.
These measures aim to provide safe, comfortable, and accessible travel experiences, while boosting regional tourism and cultural participation during major festivals.
