New Delhi, Dec 03: The Union Home Ministry has appointed advocate Madhav Khurana as the Special Public Prosecutor in the Red Fort blast case, an important step in pushing forward the long-pending trial related to the 2000 attack on the historic monument.
Officials said the appointment was made following a recommendation to strengthen the legal team handling the case, which involves multiple accused and extensive evidence collected over the years. Madhav Khurana will now represent the prosecution before the designated court and oversee all legal proceedings connected to the case.
The Red Fort blast case, which pertains to a terror attack that claimed the lives of security personnel, has undergone several phases of investigation and trial. The Home Ministry said the appointment of a dedicated Special Public Prosecutor is aimed at ensuring focused and efficient handling of the remaining legal processes.
Madhav Khurana is expected to coordinate closely with the Delhi Police, investigative agencies and other stakeholders involved in the case. Officials noted that his role will include presenting evidence, examining witnesses and assisting the court in arriving at a comprehensive conclusion.
The move has been welcomed by legal observers, who believe that assigning a specialised prosecutor will help expedite proceedings that have been pending for years.
