On day one of the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, 17.55 lakh children under the age of five received oral polio drops, marking a significant public health achievement.
Officials reported that the Union Territory achieved nearly 90% coverage on the opening day, with health workers, ASHAs, and volunteers mobilized across urban and rural areas to ensure maximum outreach.
Special booths were set up at hospitals, schools, bus stands, and religious places, while mobile teams reached remote and high-altitude regions to cover children in hard-to-access areas.
Authorities emphasized that the campaign reflects J&K’s commitment to sustaining polio-free status and safeguarding children against the crippling disease.
Health officials assured that the remaining coverage will be achieved in the coming days through door-to-door visits and intensified monitoring.
