Indian stock markets staged a sharp rally on Thursday as easing geopolitical concerns from US–Iran peace talks lifted investor sentiment. The Sensex surged 1,264 points to close at 78,111, while the Nifty settled at 24,231, comfortably above the 24,200 mark.
Falling crude oil prices, which dropped below $100 per barrel, further boosted confidence, easing inflationary pressures and lifting shares of oil marketing companies such as BPCL, HPCL, and IOC by up to 5 percent. Banking, IT, and energy stocks led the gains, while midcap and smallcap indices rose more than 2 percent, reflecting broad-based buying.
Analysts noted that the rally was driven by hopes of a US–Iran ceasefire, strong global cues, and robust foreign institutional inflows. The upbeat momentum comes ahead of key macroeconomic data releases, with investors closely watching inflation and industrial output figures for further direction.
