Jammu, November 2, 2025 — The Jammu and Kashmir Government has sanctioned 281 heritage and architecture-related projects under Phase-III of the Revival, Restoration, Preservation & Maintenance Scheme, with a total allocation of ₹495 crore. The Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums has been instructed to ensure timely execution of these projects.
The approval was granted during a recent Executive Committee meeting of the Society for Revival, Restoration, Preservation and Maintenance of Architecture and Heritage. The selected proposals were based on recommendations from District Level Coordination-cum-Implementation Committees and evaluated through site-specific assessments and detailed project reports (DPRs).
Out of 333 proposals submitted, 281 were approved. Jammu Division received approval for 78 projects worth ₹169.14 crore, while Kashmir Division secured 203 projects totaling ₹326.17 crore.
In Jammu Division, the breakdown includes: Jammu (12 projects, ₹47.82 crore), Doda (6 projects, ₹21.59 crore), Kathua (2 projects, ₹11.65 crore), Kishtwar (5 projects, ₹7.95 crore), Poonch (9 projects, ₹14.95 crore), Rajouri (22 projects, ₹34.52 crore), Ramban (9 projects), Reasi (2 projects), Samba (5 projects), and Udhampur (6 projects), with costs ranging from ₹1.60 crore to ₹22.15 crore.
In Kashmir Division, Anantnag and Srinagar lead with 48 projects each, valued at ₹85.94 crore and ₹70.78 crore respectively. Other districts include Bandipora (10 projects, ₹4.96 crore), Baramulla (25 projects, ₹44.43 crore), Budgam (8 projects, ₹9.57 crore), Ganderbal (5 projects, ₹4.13 crore), Kulgam (15 projects, ₹36.73 crore), Kupwara (6 projects, ₹26.15 crore), Pulwama (23 projects, ₹18.54 crore), and Shopian (15 projects, ₹24.94 crore).
The Executive Committee emphasized optimal resource utilization, transparency, and technical accuracy in all restoration efforts. It also discouraged desk-based DPR preparation without field verification and approved a mechanism for professional coordination with district administrations.
Progress updates revealed that out of 33 projects under Phase-I, 17 have been completed, with the rest expected by March 2026. In Phase-II, 61 of 73 projects have received administrative approval, with two DPRs under formulation and ten proposed for revision due to cost changes. Two Phase-II projects are complete, and 35 are scheduled for completion by March 2026.
To enhance implementation, the committee directed the Director of Archives, Archaeology and Museums to collaborate with institutions such as the School of Architecture at Shri Mata Vaishnodevi University, Katra, and the School of Architecture, Planning and Geomatics at Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora, or similar professional agencies as consulting partners.
