Centre launches month-long Khet Bachao Abhiyan today from Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, to promote judicious fertiliser use and soil health.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan flagged off the campaign in Ramsiya village, urging farmers to adopt balanced fertiliser practices, nano-urea, and organic alternatives.
The initiative will run nationwide from June 1–30, with outreach through Krishi Vigyan Kendras, ICAR institutes, and agricultural universities.
State governments and Panchayats will conduct awareness drives, soil testing programmes, and farmer training sessions to reduce overuse of chemical fertilisers.
India’s fertiliser requirement for Kharif 2026 is 390.54 LMT, with 200.47 LMT already available and additional imports secured to meet demand.
The campaign aligns with the Prime Minister’s call for sustainable farming and aims to safeguard soil health while ensuring productivity during the Kharif season.
