President Droupadi Murmu has expressed confidence that India can eradicate sickle cell disease before 2047 through collective efforts, aligning the mission with the vision of a healthier and developed nation by the centenary of independence.
She emphasized that the government, healthcare institutions, civil society, and communities must work together to achieve this goal. The President noted that awareness campaigns, early detection, and accessible treatment are critical to breaking the chain of transmission and reducing the disease burden.
Murmu highlighted that tribal and rural populations are disproportionately affected, making targeted interventions essential. She urged medical professionals, researchers, and policymakers to intensify efforts in prevention, genetic counseling, and innovation in treatment strategies.
