The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check Unit has urged citizens to remain vigilant against suspected fake news related to the Government of India. In its latest advisory, the unit emphasized that misinformation poses a serious threat to public trust and governance, and called upon the public to actively report any dubious content for verification.
The PIB Fact Check Unit clarified that it is the only authorized body to verify news concerning the Government of India. Citizens can share suspected fake news through official channels, including email and social media handles, where the unit will examine the claims and issue clarifications as required.
Officials highlighted that the spread of fake news often leads to confusion, panic, and misrepresentation of government policies. The advisory reiterated that timely reporting and verification are essential to safeguard the integrity of information in the public domain.
