The upcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper train has successfully completed its high-speed trial run, marking a major milestone in Indian Railways’ modernization efforts. The trial was conducted on the Kota–Nagda section under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety, where the train achieved a speed of 180 kmph.
During the trial, officials demonstrated the train’s stability by placing glasses of water inside the coach, which remained steady even at top speed. This test highlighted the advanced suspension system and engineering precision built into the new sleeper variant. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared visuals of the trial, describing it as a breakthrough in passenger comfort and safety.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is designed specifically for long-haul overnight journeys, offering sleeper berths instead of chair-car seating. It features modern interiors, bio-vacuum toilets, noise reduction systems, and is equipped with KAVACH, Indian Railways’ indigenous train collision avoidance technology. These upgrades are aimed at ensuring both convenience and safety for passengers traveling across major routes.
Unlike the existing Vande Bharat chair-car trains that cater to daytime intercity travel, the sleeper variant will transform overnight journeys by combining speed, comfort, and efficiency. With its enhanced design, passengers can expect reduced travel time and improved ride quality even at high speeds.
Indian Railways has announced plans to introduce more than 200 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains in the coming years. This large-scale rollout is expected to significantly boost connectivity between major cities, support economic growth, and provide travelers with a next-generation rail experience.
